Mr. Ruth is so excited to join Torrey Hills Elementary! He loves to see students engaged in deep thinking every day! He hopes that all students are kind, compassionate, collaborative, and inspired to be thinkers! 

 

Schools should be places of deep learning, but also places that are FUN! 

 

Mr. Ruth has been an instructional leader for the past 15 years. He has been a principal of an innovative middle school in La Mesa, the director of a charter school in the South Bay, and an elementary principal of a phenomenal school down in Chula Vista. He also had a position as an educational technology facilitator and he taught middle school for many, many years. 

 

Mr. Ruth grew up in San Diego as a surfer and lover of the outdoors. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in the area of History from the University of Hawaii. He has a Single Subject Teaching Credential and a Cross Cultural, Language & Academic Development Certificate (CLAD) from San Diego State University (Go Aztecs!). He also has a Masters Degree in the area of Educational Leadership. He is a fellow of the San Diego Area Writing Project and he taught classes for the Harvard Graduate School of Education that focused on Creating Cultures of Thinking. 

 

In addition to being an instructional leader and educator, Mr. Ruth is the father of three amazing children. His family loves to hike, camp, and enjoy the mountains. If Mr. Ruth is not at home with his family, he is probably surfing! 

 

Mr. Ruth is blown away by the awesomeness he gets to experience everyday at Torrey Hills! He is ecstatic that he gets to continue to learn and grow as an educator and leader alongside the Torrey Hills community! Let’s do amazing things together!
